Internet Marketing North East
The big message here is please don’t simply buy a website.
The Internet is littered with websites that don’t work; in fact statistics indicate fewer than 1% of people who visit a typical website simply leave without taking any action at all. Internet Marketing is about something different.
If you want different results from everyone else, you’ve got to take different actions from everyone else, especially when marketing on the Internet.
Companies have websites built without considering why they need one and do nothing to make them easy to find. Considering there are around 200 million websites out there that’s not too clever.
4 main elements are needed for good Internet Marketing:
Firstly marketing, what do you want to achieve from your website, what strategic direction should it take, do you want people to buy things from it or would you like it to be more of a lead generation device? The copy writing should be benefit rich, more advice driven than overtly sales driven and written, to a point, for search engines. To get a good roi from Internet Marketing you need a purpose.
Secondly design, it should be reflective of your corporate image, eye catching, user-centric allowing the user to clearly see what functions are available. First impressions are crucial as potential customers will make up their minds about a website in seconds. And the design should not distract visitors from the overall purpose of the site – to sell your product or service.
Thirdly construction, no explanation needed.
And lastly marketing again. You need to drive traffic to your site using multiple marketing approaches, both on-line and off-line and develop interactive relationships with people who find themselves on your site. Use email campaigns to develop the sales process and enable you to maintain regular contact with your existing customer base using the power of the Internet.
What generally happens is the first element is ignored.
The second is usually attempted by people who suddenly become creative and think they can design because they find themselves sat in front of some design software (you’re either creative or you’re not, it’s a gift and not something you “acquire”).
The third element everyone does because if you don’t, you don’t have a website.
And the fourth is usually ignored.
Unfortunately, building websites has developed into something of a cottage industry with amateur enthusiasts, as well as unscrupulous companies who should know better, only too willing to build you a website, not market it and take your money. That’s really no different to assembling a huge list of top products in a high street shop then boarding it up.
The website itself is simply a means to an end. A tool, a conduit through which Internet traffic will flow and hopefully stay long enough to buy something from you or leave you their details so you can begin a relationship with them.
